San Diego ART Matters seeks to strengthen San Diego’s creative ecosystem and advocate for greater public and private investment in the people and institutions that make our region's arts and culture sector thrive.

A Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

San Diego ART Matters envisions a region where:
  • Every individual’s right to freely participate in the community's cultural life, enjoy the arts, and share in its benefits is supported and protected. No one’s creative journey is helped or hindered by race, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion, physical ability, or class.

  • Artists, cultural workers, and practitioners have the freedom, resources, and opportunities to pursue creative careers with wages sufficient to support their livelihoods.

  • Arts and culture organizations are valued, supported, and enabled to grow where they are wanted and needed and in whatever capacity they come to serve.

  • In this more just and equitable world, the voices of young people are heard, and people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities have ample opportunities to develop their creative potential.

  • The arts and culture sector is a network of civically engaged and knowledgeable advocates who work together to make San Diego a place where people belong and desire to live.

We acknowledge that no one has all the answers and that we can’t achieve our goals without engaging and building bridges with others.

We recognize the broader context of racial, economic, and political inequities in which we operate and work to change policies and practices that limit the rights of marginalized groups and perpetuate harm.

We invest in organizational leadership, present and future, and work to grow inspired and mission-driven changemakers.

Informed Decision-Making

Our decision-making is guided by good listening and grounded in good data to ensure strategic efforts that are objective, free of bias, and informed by facts.

With trust as our cornerstone, we hold our organization and each other accountable to high standards of honesty, transparency, and ethical decision-making.
