Call to Action: Show Up for San Diego Arts & Culture

Wednesday, May 27 - Arrive at 4 p.m.

Civic Center Plaza - Downtown

Join us for a public press conference calling attention to the proposed elimination of City funding for arts and culture in the FY27 budget—a decision that threatens $11.8 million in support for organizations, jobs, and community programming across our region.

We need artists, nonprofit leaders, museum professionals, designers, writers, dancers, actors, musicians, filmmakers, singers, performers, educators, creative workers, small businesses, composers, and community members standing together to send a clear message to City Council:

San Diego’s arts and culture community matters — and full funding must be restored. Momentum is on our side. Let’s finish this fight together.

Hosted by San Diego ART Matters, Arts+Culture: San Diego, and regional arts leaders.

WE NEED MAXIMUM PARTICIPATION.

Parking reimbursement available

Signs welcome in the outdoor plaza (may not be allowed in Council Chambers). Hand-held signs are best (any handles must be wooden and less than 1/4" by 2").

Stay and take action:
Following the press conference, attendees are encouraged to remain for the 6:30 p.m. City Council session to speak directly to decision-makers.

This is more than a budget issue—it’s about protecting a vital sector that drives our economy, tells our stories, and connects our communities.

We are also speaking out for the restoration of library funding and funding for the Office of Child and Youth Success (OCYS), which focuses on improving the well-being of children, youth, and families across the city.

Your voice matters. Your presence matters.

Stand with us. Show up for arts and culture in San Diego.
